Castromán admits possible Vélez exit (23 Jan 2006 20:49 GMT)
Still between contracts, skilful midfield playmaker Lucas Castromán, 25, has gone public saying that he's not ruling out leaving current club Vélez Sársfield for pastures new in 2006.
In an interview given to La Nación, the player made it clear that his priorities lie firmly with his family's well-being and a team that can offer a decent shot at silverware.
"Today I'm still here [with Vélez], but you never know what's going to happen in the world of football. If a good offer turns up and the club agrees to it then I'll have to study the proposal, and if all sides are in agreement will play somewhere else" he explained.
Castromán added that, although not the be-all-and-end-all of things, the financial side is a key issue. "If an offer includes the remuneration that I'm looking for, I'll move for the good of my family, but, of course, only to a club that offers the right playing conditions. I won't just play in any old club."
Castromán is top of the list of reinforcements that are intended to lift Cruzeiro back to glory after a couple of mediocre years, as VP Zezé Perrella confirmed yesterday, but the stumbling block is the US $4 million price tag the Argentineans have put on the player. A Cruzeiro counter-offer is expected in the course of the next few days.
