Riquelme named The Best Player In Argentina (22 Feb 2008 18:11 GMT)
According to a poll conducted on the website of popular Argentine sports newspaper Ole, Juan Roman Riquelme is by far the best playing currently playing in the Argentine football league.
The Boca Juniors playmaker received 44.9% of the 57,625 votes.
The midfielder was followed by River Plate's talented Chilean attacker Alexis Sanchez, who won 9% of the votes.
Estudiantes de La Plata captain Juan Sebastian Veron sits in third place at the moment, with 8.4% of the votes.
Next up is River's goalkeeper Juan Pablo Carrizo, with 5.6% of the votes. The highly-rated international was on the verge of moving to Lazio of Rome a couple of months ago, but negotiations broke down.
Fifth position goes to River Plate fan favourite Ariel Ortega. The veteran midfielder has returned to his top form in recent months, even though many expected his career to be over.
Other players involved in the poll include, Diego Valeri, Daniel Montenegro, Daniel Montenegro, Maxi Moralez, Freddy Grisales, Damian Escudero and Rodrigo Palacio.
Surprisingly, last season's top scorer, German Denis wes not included in the poll.
