Riquelme: I'll Return To Boca Juniors (19 Nov 2007 20:02 GMT)
Villarreal's forgotten man Juan Roman Riquelme has told the media of his intention to rejoin Boca Juniors as soon as possible.
"I know that I will return to play with Boca Juniors, be it tomorrow, or within five months after my contract with Villarreal runs out," he told Marca. "We're still talking about the same things, and in reality I hope that the issues will be resolved quickly."
Indeed, Riquelme, who has kept quiet about the exact issues that are so haunting his career at the Madrigal, is eager to get back into a starting line-up as soon as possible.
"Boca Juniors is my home and I know that I'm going back at some point," he said. "Hopefully it'll be soon, because I want a solution in order to play every Sunday."
Still, he seems to be doing just fine playing month-to-month with the international side, for whom he is excelling.
"We picked up another victory," he said in the aftermath of that win over Bolivia, "and I was able to score again, so I'm very, very happy. All these matches are tough, so we must continue on the same path and prepare for a difficult game against Colombia."
National team boss Alfio Basile weighed in, "Riquelme is a phenomenon.
"His two goals were extraordinary. I'm filled with pride and joy to have a player like him in my team. I took a risk in bringing him into the squad, as people who don't play with their clubs can't play international football. Riquelme is the single exception."
