Maradona to return again after alcohol abuse (28 Jul 2007 11:45 GMT)

After recovering from his alcohol addiction Argentine football legend Diego Maradona will return to the football field to participate with friends in a match of "showball" against Uruguay on the fifth of August in Santa Fe, Argentina.

Maradona, who has a history of health problems related to drug and alcohol abuse, will return to the football field after being given the thumbs up by the doctor that was taking care of him at the clinic he was staying at.

Maradona, who will turn 47 in October, has not been seen exercising since leaving the clinic more than two months ago. But he has already affirmed to the press that he will be in good shape for the match.

The encounter will be played at the Universidad Tecnologica Nacional stadium in Santa Fe, and it will be televised by Fox Sports, live in Argentina and with a delayed telecast around Europe.

Maradona has selected a number of former Argentine football players to make up his team. They are Sergio Goycochea, Alejandro Mancuso, Fernando Redondo, Javier Mac Allister, Fernando Gamboa, and Matias Almeyda.

While opponents Uruguay will take to the field with Enzo Francescoli, Marcelo Saralegui, Sergio Martinez, Gabriel Cedres, and Ruben Da Silva.

Last time Maradona made a public appearance was during the inaugurating match of last month's Copa America in Venezuela.
