Aldreo Moreno gives Necaxa only goal (5 Jan 2006 20:48 GMT)

Argentine forward Aldreo Moreno kicked in a short goal early in the second half to give Necaxa a 1-0 win over Cruz Azul at Reliant Stadium on Wednesday night.

It was the first match of the InterLiga 2006 round-robin qualifying tournament to decide the two automatic berths for Mexican clubs in the Copa Libertadores.

After a scoreless first half, Moreno took an assist off a rebound and kicked it in from four yards out to give Necaxa the only goal it needed.

The closest either team came to scoring in the first half was Cruz Azul defender Cesar Delgado's shot from the side that hit the crossbar in the 28th minute.

Cruz Azul's Gerardo Torrado was issued a yellow card in the first half, and Necaxa's Jose Alberto Hernandez and Tressor Moreno each got one in the second half.

Eight Mexican clubs are in the round-robin group play which will produce two teams from both Group A and Group B. Those four teams will qualify for the InterLiga finals Jan. 15 at Carson, Calif.
