Ferguson confident of Tevez capture (9 Jul 2007 20:13 GMT)
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said that he is confident of signing West Ham attacker Carlos Tevez in the near future.
The transfer of Tevez, 23, to Old Trafford has been held up by red tape relating to the disputed ownership of the player.
"I am sure the outcome will be that we will be taking him," Ferguson commented as he officially unveiled signings Owen Hargreaves and Nani. "I thought it was going to be done by last weekend. Everything seemed perfectly okay, so the hold-up must be with the Premier League. Essential parts of the deal have been agreed and we hope to finalise it soon."
Tevez is expected to fetch close to £30 million, but the stumbling block lies with agent Kia Joorabchian's claim that he, and not the Hammers, ought to benefit from the move.
The Premier League does not agree, having controversially sanctioned Tevez' appearances in the final matches of the season with the assurance that West Ham own his signature. Ironically he scored at Old Trafford on the final day to help keep the club in the top division.
