Crespo frustrated at missing Spain test (8 Oct 2006 17:47 GMT)

Argentina striker Hernan Crespo said on Tuesday he was frustrated at having to miss next week's friendly away to Spain because of injury.

Crespo, picked for the first time since the World Cup, was ruled out after suffering a muscle problem in his left leg during Inter Milan's 0-0 draw with Cagliari at the weekend.

The 31-year-old could be out of action for a month.

"It's a shame for me to miss this game," he told the sports daily Ole in an interview. "But at least (coach Alfio) Basile picked me and I hope to have another chance in the future."

Crespo was overlooked when Basile, who replaced Jose Pekerman following the finals in Germany this summer, picked his squad for last month's game against Brazil in London. Argentina lost 3-0.

"At 31, I just think from game to game," added Crespo. "There's no point in making long-term plans but the pleasure is the same as always and I'm never going to stop dreaming about wearing the shirt I love the most."

Crespo declined to comment on Juan Roman Riquelme's surprise decision to end his international career.

"I can only speak for my own decisions. It has never occured to me to quit the national team," he said.
