Deportivo demands freeze on Scaloni move (18 Sep 2006 01:16 GMT)
Deportivo La Coruna will reportedly ask for the transfer of its former player Lionel Scaloni to be put on hold because they infringe FIFA rules.
Argentina defender Scaloni joined Racing Santander, two weeks after rescinding their Deportivo contracts before the Aug. 31 transfer deadline.
FIFA rules state that players can only move outside the transfer window under certain conditions such as being out of contract or experiencing financial difficulties.
Deportivo has asked the Spanish Football League to stop Scaloni appearing for his new clubs until the next window in January because it argues he doesn't qualify under those conditions.
Scaloni, 28, spent nine years with Deportivo, helping the team to win the Spanish league in 2000 and the Copa del Rey two years later.
Scaloni was hoping to make his debut for Santander in Sunday's league game with champion FC Barcelona.
