Villarreal playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme announced his retirement from international football Wednesday night for family reasons.
"Since the World Cup, my mother has been taken to hospital twice and my responsibility is to take care of her," said Riquelme, who said he would miss donning the famous Argentina jersey.
Riquelme, 28, earned 37 caps for the national team and scored eight goals in the process.
