Villarreal still hope to sell Argentina captain Juan Pablo Sorin but will keep the player if they do not receive big enough offers.
Club president Fernando Roig said a deal to sell Sorin to Bolton appeared to have fallen through.
"We had reached an agreement with Bolton for Sorin but the player wasn't convinced by the deal and he has come back to our club," said Roig. "If we get another offer that interests both us and the player then we will accept it, if not then we will honor the two years that he has left on his contract."
Roig said Villarreal were interested in signing Argentina center-back Roberto Ayala although Valencia were not willing to negotiate over the player.
"I spoke to the president of Valencia (Juan Bautista Soler) on the phone, but he told me the club had no intention of negotiating with Villarreal and I respect his wishes," said Roig.
