Sorin and Crespo pleased with the game (11 Jun 2006 17:53 GMT)

Argentina captain Juan Pablo Sorin said he was pleased with his side's attitude after they held off Ivory Coast to win 2-1 in Hamburg.

The South Americans, amongst the favourites to win the tournament, started well with goals from Hernan Crespo and Javier Saviola, but Ivory Coast battled bravely and showed they will be no pushovers in Germany.

Sorin formed a part of Argentina's rearguard action in the second half as The Elephants poured forward in search of an equaliser, and after claiming a crucial three points in their opening game of the tournament, the Villarreal star was delighted to see Argentina hold on for the win.

"I liked our attitude, always looking for good results but quiet," said Sorin. "A good attitude. We lacked some depth, we felt tired, but the team worked fine. The first match was a key one. We kept calm as they came back at us and tried to play a bit deeper towards the end in the heat. This was a key one to win."

Chelsea striker Crespo, who scored the opening goal, was also pleased with the performance from Albicelestes.

"We played well," said Crespo. "We were full of desire but we have to keep on in this vein."
